Broadchurch – a Father Daughter Perspective

Season 3 of the British crime drama ‘Broadchurch‘ begins in the U.K. tonight and it premieres here in Canada on March 5th, so I thought it would be fun to share a rather special ‘Father Daughter Perspective‘. Caitlin and I are both big fans of Broadchurch, so when we went to the U.K. in 2015 we both agreed it would be fun to visit a few of the filming locations, especially as we were going to be very close to them anyway. Clevedon, Uphill and West Bay, collectively known as ‘Broadchurch’ are all in South West England, where we spent a good part of our trip visiting family, so it was easy to make a couple of short trips to walk in the footsteps of DS Miller and DI Hardy.

The photos in the slide show below begin with a day in Clevedon which you’ll recognize as the location for Broadchurch’s High Street where the newspaper office and Traders Hotel are, and St. Bede’s Parish Church, Poet’s Walk and Wain’s Hill are all located in Clevedon as well. The Clevedon Pier was not featured in Broadchurch but you may recognize it if you saw the movie ‘Never Let Me Go’ or if you’re a fan of “One Direction” who shot their video “You and I” there. After Clevedon are just a few shots, from Uphill in Weston-Super-Mare, of Uphill Boat Yard and Uphill Wharf that were used in the show that I shot on an earlier trip in 2010. Next up is the town of West Bay, where you’ll recognize the cliffs right away as well as the Harbour, Pier, Promenade, the Police Station, Cafe, Newsagent and DI Hardy’s house. All photos are taken by Caitlin and I, and I’ve watermarked them all so you can tell who shot what. I hope you enjoy them and please leave a comment so we know you were here!

And here’s a shot we recreated from a scene in Season 2 that we were so happy with it was chosen for the photo on the back of our book ‘Father Daughter Perspective’, we also included a two page spread of photos from both West Bay on the left and Clevedon on the right.
