In My Life

Greetings from the Greek Islands…

I had this song going through my head on my walk home tonight… I’m seeing places and things that I will likely never forget “I know I’ll often stop and think about them” just as I still think about the people in my life “Some are dead and some are living, in my life I’ve loved them all”.

Being alone for a long period of time, especially on a two month trip like this is like letting your mind lose in a huge playroom… I sat for a while today, threw my legs over the edge of the precipice, stared out over what 3600 years ago was a giant volcano… and thought about places… and people and things… in my life… and wrote some post cards. LOL!

I admitted in a Facebook post earlier to a moment that brought me to tears while here on the Island of Santorini. I’ve been accused on multiple occasions of being too sensitive as though it’s wrong to be so… funny, cause I don’t think it is. I remember a quote by one of my favourite authors Edgar Allen Poe,

Beauty of whatever kind, in its supreme development, invariably excites the sensitive soul to tears. ~ Edgar Allen Poe

I find this to be so true and I’m glad that today brought me to tears because it means I’m not too old or jaded to still see beauty in this world!

I had to look up that quote to make sure I got it right and I found these which I agree with too…

The people you think are the happiest are usually the saddest; that’s because they see more and feel deeper than others do. They are the sensitive and they see beyond the veil of what’s tangible and what’s not. They wear no masks and can see through the masks of others. The sensitive to life are few in number, which is why they feel so alone…because they are all alone. ~ Donna Lynn Hope

Highly sensitive people are too often perceived as weaklings or damaged goods. To feel intensely is not a symptom of weakness, it is the trademark of the truly alive and compassionate. It is not the empath who is broken, it is society that has become dysfunctional and emotionally disabled. There is no shame in expressing your authentic feelings. Those who are at times described as being a ‘hot mess’ or having ‘too many issues’ are the very fabric of what keeps the dream alive for a more caring, humane world. Never be ashamed to let your tears shine a light in this world. ~ Anthon St. Maarten

I can see that I may come back a little bit different after my mind has spent a lot of time in that ‘huge playroom’ for the next 2 months…

But I like solitude. I walk, and the past walks with me. I remember everything. It’s a burden. ~ from the film Byzantium

Goodnight from the Greek Islands….
