and so the journey begins…

Bicycles for Humanity 2013 Campaign, Ottawa to Kibera, Kenya

Just over a month ago we did a photo shoot with Bicycles for Humanity for our ‘people helping people‘ project. Well, last weekend B4H and their team of volunteers got together again and Luckham Creative shot some more photos and created a cool time lapse….

This is a 1 and a half minute time lapse video of the loading of the B4H shipping container that will carry 15, 380 lbs of bicycles, spare parts and tools to Africa. The shipping container now begins it’s 2-3 month journey by sea to Kijiji Cha Upendo (“Village of Love” in Swahili) in Kibera, Kenya where it will be unloaded and the container will be converted to a Bicycle Empowerment Centre (BEC), a community based bike shop.

Kijiji Cha Upendo is a magnificent group of families who are taking care of hundreds of orphans and vulnerable children in their community. Bicycles for Humanity’s mission is not only to help improve the lives of those in Kibera through access to transportation, but also to give this group of families a means of generating income to help care for the children.

Timelapse shot on October 6th, 2013 by Luckham Creative with a GoPro Hero 3 kindly loaned by Graeme Hay. Assembled, edited and processed with Abobe Photoshop and Premiere by Luckham Creative.
