Even though I’ve been involved in the Graphics Industry since 1985, in reality I’ve been dabbling in design and photography ever since I was a child. My childhood and school years were full of creativity, from music to theatre, and art to architecture, and of course photography, there was creativity in everything I chose to do. After leaving school I initially pursued a career in the music industry as a sound recording engineer, with photography coming along as a strong passion, whether tied in to my love of music (my first published concert photograph, 1980) or just being in the right place at the right time (my first published news photograph, 1980). Eventually though, my love of graphic design was too strong to ignore, and I started Aries Publishing Inc. in Vancouver, B.C. in 1985 to design and publish a local entertainment magazine, The Vancouver Preview. I was one of the first in Vancouver to be working with PageMaker and the Macintosh computer, just as the “Desktop Publishing” revolution began. Due to competition and the high cost of publishing, however, The Preview didn't go very far. A lot of people saw what I had done though... and other design work started to come in, that's when Aries Publishing turned into Dedicated Desktop Publishing. My skills with page layout and graphics software on the Macintosh made me a valuable resource for the local design industry. The next few years were like an apprenticeship, working with some of Vancouver’s top designers. One day, designer Rob Bishop MGDC of Found Communications, came into my office and presented me with a plaque for the office wall... Goethe’s ‘Until one is committed.... Begin it Now’. That’s when I knew my career as a Graphic Designer had begun.

In 1990 I took over another local design studio, Computer Geeks Graphic Design & Production. In late 1992 I moved to Ottawa, Ontario, where I continue, as Dedicated Desktop Creative Services, to provide a personal service that only a small studio can provide, but I still provide many of the same services and resources as a large design studio... and then some! Working with other skilled professionals in the graphics industry, as well as tapping into the fresh new talent I am exposed to through the training I provide, means I have access to a lot of talent! This means illustrators that bring a unique style to a project, photographers with a talent for capturing the right moment, young new designers that can speak to a new generation of consumers, and a variety of traditional and specialty printers that can print the job – big or small! My services include web and print design, photography and image editing and training and consulting to clients across Canada and in the United States.

January of 2008, I decided to retire the name Dedicated Desktop Creative
Services in favour of a name that would better reflect the personal
and creative service I offer, Luckham Creative. I continue to
dedicate myself to providing the best in Creative Services... design
and photographic skills combined with technical expertise and a passion
