Sometimes I think I think too much

What a wonderful day… this year I spent Valentine’s Day in an all day meeting at the Arc Hotel with 10 women that I have the privilege of working with, and yes I was the only guy! It was an annual meeting of the “communications team” on a project I’ve been working on for the past 5 years. As we all live in different cities, Ottawa, St. John’s and Boston, we try to get together once a year. After our first day’s meeting we went for a short skate/walk on the Canal, then dinner at Play Food & Wine. After dinner we went to the Arts Court for The Tree Reading Series Open Mic and some Poetry Reading. Leslie, a published poet and one of the women in our group visiting from St. John’s Newfoundland, had been invited to be a featured reader, and when we arrived I was talked in to being a last minute addition to the list of readers for the evening. Tree always records videos of all their Featured Readers and Open Mic participants, so… here’s the videos.

I chose three pieces to read that had a “Valentine’s Day” feel to them. The first, You, is a very short poem written by the British Singer/Songwriter Kate Bush when she was only 12 years old. The second, Stratford, I wrote for my daughter back in 2000 when I moved away from Ottawa and was separated from her for a short while. The last, Sometimes I think I think too much, is a piece I wrote back in July of 2011 that was inspired by a Frank Sinatra song, In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning. I hope you enjoy them… maybe I’ll see you at another reading.

And here’s Leslie’s reading…
