What if… you made the Cover!

What if Weekends: 52 Weeks Project 8/52

I wanted to make this “What if you did get your picture on The Cover of the Rolling Stone!” But wiser heads prevailed!

My friend Steve here is a great local musician who’s been around for some time, he and his band the Stephen Thomas Band have two CD’s out the latest of which, Horatio Street, is a great mix of folk, rock, funk and reggae! When Steve suggested we do a Photo Illusion we went through a bunch of ideas and I kept pushing towards something to do with his music. When I said “How about I put you on ‘The Cover of The Rolling Stone’?” he liked the idea. Given that I want to use these illusions in a book when I’m done though, and as Steve is a professional musician and designer himself, we both agreed that using the Rolling Stone masthead was not a good idea. So, the Rising Star was born… the name actually comes from a radio show I used to do out in Vancouver spotlighting bands that seemed to be just about to get their big break! If I were still doing that radio show, I’d have the Stephen Thomas Band on!

Hope you like this Illusion, we shot the cover photo at the stage at Andrew Haydon Park and then came back to my place to shoot the main shot you see here. I’m sure a few people at Andrew Haydon were wondering why Steve didn’t play! LOL!

This is my What if Weekend Photo Illusion for week 8 of my 52 Weeks Project!
Special thanks to Stephen Thomas, Graeme Hay, Caitlin Luckham and Eric Pusey for collaborating with me on this photo illusion!
